Apocalypse: The Second World War is a six-part French documentary series by Daniel Costelle and Isabelle Clarke about the Second World War. The series tells the epic story of World War II, providing an insight into the experiences of the millions of soldiers who fought across countries and continents, and the moving stories of the millions of civilians who saw their homes destroyed and lives disrupted by the cataclysm of war. Using actual footage of the war filmed by war correspondents, soldiers, resistance fighters and private citizens, Apocalypse: The Second World War presents a chilling and sometimes confronting look at the horrors of the war.

This episode covers Hitler's invasion of Poland and features footage of the catastrophe faced by the Polish army as it was crushed by the Nazi war machine.

Episode 2 - Crushing Defeat (1939-1940)
This episode shows the allied defensive lines are broken by Hitler; British troops hastily evacuate from the beaches at Dunkirk are forced to abandon precious military equipment.

Episode 3 - Shock (1940-1941)
This episode features Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union, the Desert War - Rommel's War against the British in North Africa.

Episode 4 - World Ablaze (1941-1942)
This episode features the sudden Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the early days of the war in the Pacific.

Episode 5 - The Great Landing (1942-1943)
This episode looks at the turning of the war against Germany, with Allied victory at El-Alamein and Russian triumph at Stalingrad.

Episode 6 - Inferno (1944-1945)
This episode tells the dramatic story of the D-Day landings and of the liberation of France. Germany finally surrenders, but Japan fights on until the atom bombs are dropped.
