Stephen Fry in America

Stephen Fry in America is a six-part BBC television series in which Stephen Fry travels through all 50 states of the United States of America. Stephen's journey begins in New England, with lobster fishermen in Downeast Maine. Then he travels around each of America's states in his black London cab in order to discover, in his own inimitable style, what makes the country unique and to get under the skin of American life. During his journey, Stephen Fry experiences deer hunting in New York State, a whiskey distillery in Kentucky, an Amish community in Wisconsin, the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains, basket weaving with Navajo Indians in Monument Valley in Arizona, meeting environmental activists in Oregon, the lava fields in Hawaii where his journey ends.

Episode 1 - New World




Episode 1 - New World
Stephen Fry explores the states that make up New England, before heading south to the nation's capital and ending up at the civil war battlefield of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.

Episode 2 - Deep South
Stephen Fry tries to find out what makes the South so distinctive. He begins by crossing the Mason-Dixon Line, and tours a coal mine in West Virginia, watches horse trading and bourbon brewing in Kentucky, etc.

Episode 3 - Mississippi
A 2000 mile journey up the Mississippi River begins in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, followed by a visit to Morgan Freeman's blues club in Mississippi.

Episode 4 - Mountains and Plains
Stephen Fry heads south from Montana to Texas, exploring the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and America's breadbasket beside them.

Episode 5 - True West
Stephen Fry explores the ancient city of Santa Fe and sees the cutting edge of scientific research in Los Alamos. Staying with the Navajo Indians in Monument Valley, Stephen learns to weave a basket.

Episode 6 - Pacific
Stephen Fry begins in San Francisco, exploring its Chinatown and meeting Apple executive Jonathan Ive. After traveling through Oregon, Seattle and Alaska, Stephen finishes his journey at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory in Hawaii.
