Journeys from the Centre of the Earth

Journeys from the Centre of the Earth is a BBC documentary series presented by geologist Dr Iain Stewart, showing how the rocks beneath our feet have shaped the history of the Mediterranean. The series consists of six episodes, each of which explores the influence of the landscape in a certain field: risky rocks, architecture, art, beliefs, water, and salt. Traveling to the countries of the Mediterranean region including Egypt, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Spain and Turkey, Iain Stewart explains how geology is behind everything from the rise and fall of civilizations to religion, architecture and food.

Traveling to Greece, Italy and Portugal, Iain Stewart looks at how geological events have influenced the way we believe the world around us works.

Episode 5 - Water
Traveling to Greece, Spain and Jordan, Iain Stewart tells the story of man's 10,000-year battle with water.

Episode 6 - Salt
Traveling to Egypt, Italy and Norway as Ice Age Mediterranean, Iain Stewart looks at how salt is central to Mediterranean history.
